ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Overview
The Learning Sciences Conference, held from 4–5 June 2026, brings together educators, key personnel, and leaders from schools and institutes of higher learning to explore how teaching and learning can be strengthened in a world marked by uncertainty, rapid change, and growing complexity. Set against a BANI context—one that is increasingly brittle, anxious, nonlinear, and difficult to make sense of—the conference invites participants to consider how the learning sciences can provide a more stable, evidence-informed foundation for educational practice.
Anchored on the theme “The Science of Learning in an AI-Driven, Multi-Intelligent World,” the conference examines how research on learning can help educators respond thoughtfully to the opportunities and tensions of contemporary education. As artificial intelligence reshapes how knowledge is accessed, generated, and applied, and as learner variability becomes more visible across classrooms and institutions, the need for a deeper understanding of how learners think, feel, participate, and grow becomes even more pressing. This direction is strongly consistent with the current keynote programme, which foregrounds AI and multiple intelligences, dialogic teaching, durable learning, learner anxiety, and the human dimensions of leadership and learning.
Across the two days, participants will engage with leading experts, examine research-informed perspectives, and explore how insights from cognitive science, neuroscience, and the learning sciences can inform pedagogy, assessment, professional dialogue, and the design of meaningful learning environments. The conference is designed not only to share ideas, but to strengthen educators’ capacity to exercise professional judgement, reflect more deeply on practice, support diverse learners with greater intentionality, and lead learning with clarity, care, and intellectual rigour. Those qualities fit well with a developmental, practice-improving orientation for educators and leaders, while keeping the language broad and accessible.
The Learning Sciences Conference serves as a platform for serious professional dialogue and collective learning. It is intended for educators and leaders across disciplines in both schools and IHLs who are committed to translating research into practice and shaping learning environments that are both future-ready and deeply humane.
Theme
The theme, “The Science of Learning in an AI-Driven, Multi-Intelligent World,” reflects the realities of education in a time shaped by technological acceleration, increasing learner diversity, and rising complexity. In a BANI world, educators are challenged not merely to keep pace with change, but to respond with discernment, adaptability, and a sound understanding of how learning actually happens.
The theme positions the learning sciences as an important anchor in this context. As AI transforms the production and use of knowledge, the conference highlights the continuing importance of evidence-informed teaching, durable learning, productive dialogue, and emotionally safe environments for learning. This is reflected across the keynote programme: one keynote explores whether effective learning strategies still matter in the age of generative AI; another examines how collaboration and AI can strengthen dialogic teaching; another addresses how anxiety and students’ self-perceptions shape learning; and another argues that the future of schools remains fundamentally human, even in an AI-rich landscape.
At the same time, the theme recognises that education in an AI-driven world must remain deeply human. While technology may expand access, efficiency, and feedback, it cannot replace the professional judgement, relational sensitivity, and ethical responsibility required of educators and leaders. The conference therefore invites participants to explore how research-informed teaching and leadership can support meaningful learning, respond more intentionally to learner variability, and strengthen educational practice across schools and institutes of higher learning.
Ultimately, the theme calls for an education that is not merely reactive to change, but thoughtfully grounded in research, responsive to complexity, and committed to helping learners thrive in a world that is continually being reshaped.
